A random update

So I'm up pretty late which is funny because wanna know what time we went to bed last night? 7:45! And we slept til 8 this morning! Craziness. It did feel pretty good.

These are the new shoes I got. I'm not sure if you'll like them...but I do!

I'm quite addicted to pinterest...will this wear off in time? As if I needed another website to check! Oh well. I'm very paranoid about pinning too much though. I'd hate to annoy someone. I'm just very enthusiastic about it! I mean, here I've really only been doing this a few days and I already have more pins up than you do!

Sorry to cut this short but I really should be going to bed soon. I'd like to hear more about your classes and how you feel about health ed and your new job especially!

made it up, it's nothing special but it's been one of those days where I just need something sweet and this hits just the spot!

First Saturday of the Semester!

Happy Weekend!

I didn't wake up till noon today after staying up past 1am looking at food blogs. I was starving when I went to bed after looking at all the delicious recipes!

My first week of school went pretty well. On Tuesday morning my very first class of the semester was my Heath Psychology and Behavioral Medicine class and the very first word my teacher said was "SHIT!" She couldn't get her computer to work because all the classrooms run on PC's while she's grown up with macs. I can feel her pain! I love this class! I absolutely love the way she thinks. Thursday we were talking about the health care system and how it's probably the biggest financial burden the US faces and obviously something needs to change. I finally agree that we do need a heath care reform and it's not some scary democratic thing, it's a serious issue. However, she doesn't believe that social health care will work, it's just not a possibility in America because we're not going to want to wait 6 months to be treated because of our "I want it now" agenda. I totally agree with her!

Which brings me to my Health Discipline class. The first day I went to that class I came in thinking the whole class was a joke and an easy A but a total bore. However on Friday my mind was completely changed. It's main focus is on health education and I realized that I may want a profession in public health or health education. I've always had a negative attitude on all the public health organizations, for some reason I just think they're a bunch of dimwits. But adolescent obesity is such a problem and I think it would be rewarding if you could change America's view on a healthy lifestyle.

As for my genetics class, I have a super nice old guy as my professor and I love him! He told us the FUNNIEST story on Thursday! We're reviewing Mendel's studies and dominant and recessive genes and at the beginning of class he had us taste test PTC paper to see if we were tasters or non-tasters of the bitter preservative solution. I have a recessive gene (tt) for the non-tasters which means both mom and dad are either heterozygous (Tt) or recessive like me :)

Anyways, his funny story: One of the first years he worked for A&M the school had asked him to set up a little table to kind of give perspective students an idea of what his class deals with for an orientation. He realized a lot more people showed up than just high school seniors, lots of families from the town came as well. His set up was of this PTC paper and he had a big tally board to make marks so he can show the dominance of the taster trait. During the day a middle aged man came up to the table to test if he had the taster gene. He couldn't taste anything but smiled and said he'd be back. Moments later he came back with a woman (presumably his wife) and his 3 kids. His wife put the paper in her mouth but couldn't taste anything. So you know both the parents are both recessive (tt) and it should be impossible for any of the kids to be able to taste it. His first oldest kid took the test an didn't taste anything, the middle child took the test and didn't taste anything, then the put a piece of paper in their 6 month old's mouth and immediately the baby had a fit and spit the paper out and went ballistic from the horribly bitter taste... The father was immediately suspicious and it was long enough ago to where paternity tests weren't done often. My teacher didn't know what to say. He asked if either of them smoke because that can have an effect on the gene. Neither of them did. My teacher didn't know what else to say other than it doesn't necessarily mean it's not his baby and they eventually left. Haha ooops.....

That's about all the exciting news for my week. Nothin else too intersting other than the countless job applications i'm filling out. 7 are completed. I have about 5-6 more to do and hopefully someone will want me! Anybody? Please???

Today I am trying to be PRODUCTIVE and the only way I can really accomplish that is by writing up a schedule the night before and crossing things off as I go...so right now I am in my 15 minute Internet break, hip hip hooray. Can't wait to hear how your news classes/major is treating you. LOVE LOVE

Overall I think it'll be a delightful semester. Last semester I got in the habit of waking up early almost every morning to finish homework. Hopefully I'll be better about working ahead so I can save my mornings for working out and sleeping in on Fridays! I am equal parts excited and nervous about graduating in May, but I'll worry about that later. For now, I'm just excited for classes to start :)

Mom said she wants to start a blog with us where we all try out a recipe and then blog about it... I like the idea and I said she should just get added on to this one, however this blog has a different purpose so perhaps we'll just have to start a new one!!! :D

Does it sound boring?? At least it will be fairly easy. Genetics is what I'm most concerned about. The nutrition and all the health classes will be a piece of cake. and the psychology class will be tough but interesting! NO SCIENCE WITH LABS!!!!!! WOO-HOO!!!!

Fresh start

I thought it would be fitting, given what our last posts were about, to share with you my new schedule for the fall, since I signed up for classes today! (always a momentous and exciting occasion for me) :)

I don't really feel like going through all the trouble of doing a screen shot right now, but I'll write it out for you:

Sorry that it took so long to reply!

I can't sympathize about your busy dead week because I'm in no classes that require papers or projects :) I have a geography test next Monday, and a bio and chem test on Tuesday and then I'm done! Sounds nice and simple but I'm scared! :/

Anyways, better news... My Schedule! ( Actually it's not better news, next semester's going to suck)

There ya are! :) I'm pretty happy with all the times for all the classes, it's pretty much what I wanted. However, I'm not thrilled about having to take any of these classes. I wish you didn't have to take a bunch of dumb core classes in college. You should just go solely to study what you want. I don't want to take math or history... :(

The Beginning of the End

Well, I figure if I persevere, you'll catch up with posting eventually. :)

The end-of-semester stress is setting in. When do you have finals? For me, finals week is never half as bad as dead week. If I ever have final exams, they aren't anything I can't handle. It's the projects and portfolios and papers due during "dead" week that get me.

A friend from Omaha will be over any minute, and I'm excited for that. Tonight I'll have to study for one last French chapter test before the bigger and badder tests start up in that class. Wanna help me study for my oral exam on Tuesday?

Levels of Production

Technically it was your turn to blog yesterday, but I suppose I'll forgive you this one time, little sister. :)

I had a relatively productive day today...went to Ed Psych, emailed an assignment to a groupmate, worked on my English final, went to French, ate a sandwich, read my Ed Psych textbook, put in my final 45 minutes in the language lab!!, and then went to an unrequired lecture about research on getting children ready for school.

Then I got home at about five and have done very little since. Which brings me to our blog, yet another form of procrastination. Huzzah.

In other news, my coffee pot stopped working. Of course, AFTER all the lovely black Friday sales.

Also, it was FREEZING today. Several layers were required. It snowed a little bit last night, but praise God from whom all blessings flow, the roads weren't slick.

Only eight more school days till finals!! How many for you? Can't wait to see you in just a few weeks.

Break Time!!

Well, it feels good to finally be on break. Had Ed Psych in the morning; we talked about what to do when kids misbehave! I was productive during my break and worked on a paper, then went to a French class missing about half the people. We went over some new terms (les W.C! and les portes-fenetres...don't we call those French doors in America?) and then watched about twenty minutes of Amelie. Have you seen it? I doubt you watched it in high school, it's pretty, um, "mature" in some parts, but I really fun movie!

Last week we watched a French film in my English class too! Summer Hours. It was good, but very slow paced. I don't know if you'd like it. And guess what me and Tom just now watched? The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou! Remember when that came out and we wanted to see it so bad? It was not at all what I was expecting...very off beat. I liked it, though.

I'm really excited to hear about what movies you watch in your film class next semester! When do you officially sign up for classes?

So what happened to posting on Friday?? It's okay, I post now :)

I thoroughly enjoyed that video of one of the aggie players pinching your players butt. I laughed... It really doesn't represent our school very well, I'm sorry about that! But it's not like ya'll would have won had they called the penalty on our player.. :P

I'm applying for a student worker job in the choir office. Hopefully I'll get it so I can make some money for my England trip!! I'm so excited!!

This week is great! Today we got out of Geography 20 minutes early, AND!! no labs this week! Hooplah!! Now all I have to do is study for my Chemistry test tomorrow at 11am, and go to choir, and then it's headed back home for Thanksgivin' Break!! Woohoo!!

Speaking of Geography, on an ending side note, I'm almost out of paper in my notebook for that class! I'm down to 3 full pages and we still have a chapter and a half to cover.. Gah.. :( Oh well.

October 6th, 2010 (3 days till your birthday!!)

Okay so I only took pictures one day and that was to my geography class, but this is probably my prettiest of walks so I guess it's appropriate enough to show :P And the order is all wrong because I don't know how to do this yet, I'm sorry!

So this is my final destination, Zachry. I think this is mostly for social sciences and possibly physics??? I enjoy the fountain that's in front of this building, however I didn't get a picture of it. (Sad face)

Right now I'm on top of the "hill" which is the halfway point from my dorm to Zachry.

This is our little section of dorms on the South Side of campus. If you walk straight and then turn right, you'll hit the Commons where I usually eat. (Preview: I think next week we should do the foodie blog :D)

This is inside my dorm. This picture a little extra tidbit of campus life I thought you'd enjoy! On this particular morning I was sitting at my desk, studying (cough cough *cramming* cough) for my first Biology test in a few hours. Around 11:30am (only an hour left of available study time -- the most crucial time, I think!) guess what happens... THE POWER GOES OUT! So I have to move from my desk, to the little corner and steal light from the window (Lynh, my roommate, was still sleeping so I couldn't open the blinds), but then as I tried to download a powerpoint, I realized our wireless connection was down as well, so I had to go to the noisy Commons to do my final studying. It was surprisingly productive!

Okay, sorry that took me so long to post! I'll try and become more prompt at these things from now on!

HUSKER: My daily walk to school

Here is my lot. It's a bit ghetto, but a hundred dollars cheaper than the normal commuter lots. Note the football stadium? Yeah, that's kind of a big deal.

In case you missed it before, here's Memorial Stadium again.

Here are some nice fellows. This is right outside the stadium. See the weight room? Yeah, that's not the rec. That's exclusively for student athletes. A bunch of big guys were in there today. I SO wanted to take a picture of them for you. Oh well.

There's the ped bridge we just crossed. By now we're about halfway to class!

Now, this picture is here for two reasons: 1. Our clock tower is really lame compared to yours. and 2. This lot? Prime real estate. Faculty parking. Runs at about $1000 a year. (Mine was $300)

And on our right is the NU Coliseum where the vball team plays, also connected to the Rec Center for normal people. And from there, my building is just a block further down on Tuesday/Thursdays. About a ten minute walk!

 And there you have it! I was hoping my first post would be a little more impressive, but it was kinda rainy today so it was very point-and-shoot. What you got, little sista?!
